Having had issues with cheap, reproduction steering racks, we decided to look at alternatives. Our conclusion was that the original racks are the best solution.
The problem with original racks is that they are potentially 60+ years old, so require thorough re-conditioning.
Our process starts with an external clean followed by disassembly.
The casing is then meticulously cleaned internally and painted externally.
A new rack tube bush is installed and re-assembly begins.
A brand new rack bar, plunger and pinion are fitted and carefully shimmed to factory specification.
The appropriate ball-pin arms are fitted next, again shimmed up to correct tolerances.
Finally a new set of gaiters finish the job off.
These units are the finest quality available.
